Ute Schmid-Jones

Ute Schmid-Jones is a 2026 candidate for Mayor. She previously ran for Midland mayor in 2022 and has identified housing security, community safety and economic development as key campaign issues.

BACKGROUND

Schmid-Jones is a Midland Secondary School graduate with a degree in radio and television from Ryerson Polytechnic University. MidlandToday reports that she has served on several Town committees, helped establish the Midland Community Garden and volunteered with Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.

STATED PRIORITIES

In a 2026 MidlandToday interview, she emphasized housing security, community safety and economic development. She has supported more flexible housing forms such as secondary suites, shared housing and smaller units; broader economic-development attention beyond downtown; prevention-focused community safety; and growth that protects natural assets.
